ANKORS Prevention Education Program
Description: The program provides educational
workshops on HIV/AIDS prevention and harm reduction.
Goal: To connect with at risk populations, including
youth, in order to provide education, support and resources
around HIV prevention and harm reduction.
Services: Educational workshops (AIDS 101, Marginalization/Discrimination,
Peer Pressure and HIV, Sex in the Sticks - an interactive
exercise on HIV transmission), support, and resources.
Youth Involvement: Feedback from workshop evaluations
ensures that workshops meet needs and interests. Youth
feedback on the barriers they face in getting information
on safer sex and injection drug use also directly influences
our program.

Safe Spaces
Description: A service for GLBTQ youth.
Goal: To educate GLBTQ youth about harm reduction
activities; and to provide a safe physical place for
GLBTQ youth to meet and connect with each other.
Services: Drop-in and one-on-one appointments;
weekly group meetings; e-mail outreach and support;
resource and lending library; referrals; and workshops
and presentations on homophobia.
Youth Involvement: Youth are involved with all aspects
of service planning and delivery. Youth are consulted
on service direction, content and design, and are encouraged
to create a service that meets their needs.

Youth Source/HIV/AIDS Program
Description: Youth Source provides a warm,
welcoming atmosphere where youth can gain access to
a wide array of services and resources, including: HIV/AIDS
prevention education and support, a drop-in program
for youth 21 years old and younger, free and con?dential
STI testing and counselling, recreational activities
for youth, and more.
Goal: To provide HIV/AIDS awareness, support,
and education for youth.
Services: Educational workshops to community
groups and services on HIV and hepatitis C transmission,
testing and treatment, and harm reduction strategies;
referrals and individual support; and a youth outreach
program.
Youth Involvement: Youth volunteer in the running and
service delivery of the program, and youth clients provide

The Power to Choose
Description: The Power to Choose is a series
of interactive workshops that uses videos and games
to engage youth in HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C education.
Goal: To increase youth knowledge of HIV/AIDS
and hepatitis C and related issues, such as self-esteem,
drug use, homophobia, racism, etc.
Youth Involvement: Youth help co-facilitate the program,
and youth feedback helps to determine workshop topics.

HIV/AIDS Prevention for Youth: A Newsletter for
Educators
Description: A quarterly newsletter that
profiles HIV/AIDS prevention strategies
and resources for educating students with learning challenges

Totally Outright Sexual Health Leaders
Description: Totally Outright is a training
program and community internship for young gay men's
sexual health leaders.
Goal: To close a gap in leadership development
for young gay men's health by training community educators
who can address known vulnerabilities for HIV, STIs
and other culturally relevant health issues amongst
their peers in the population.
Services: Forty hours training; community internship;
sexual health leaders' manual; and educational resources.
Youth Involvement: Totally Outright was planned with
a youth consulting team, and the manual and educational
materials are written by young gay men.

Description: Condomania, under the Vancouver Coastal
Health umbrella, works with youth ages 12 -15 to shape
attitudes, values, and behaviours that promote sexual
health for a lifelong impact, with an added focus on
engaging young men in sexual health education. Condomania
equips youth with knowledge, skills, and motivation
to shape positive attitudes and avoid unwanted or risky
sexual behaviors.
Goal: To reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS, STIs,
and unintended pregnancies resulting from not using
a condom; to develop an awareness and acceptance of
one's sexuality, including values, beliefs, and boundaries;
to strengthen risk assessment, healthy decision-making,
communication, and negotiation; and to support youth
leadership in the development of age-appropriate and
culturally competent programming.
Services: Education Program (includes 4 workshops
based on a peer-mentoring framework); an interactive

magazine; education and promotional materials designed
by and for youth including condom cartoon packages and
tattoos; media campaigns; and public education and outreach

Gab Youth
Description: A drop-in program for queer
and questioning youth and their friends.
Goals: To provide a cool place for youth to hang
out and meet people that have similar questions about
sexual orientation and gender identity; and to provide
a range of programs and services for queer and questioning

support and advocacy; referrals; and interactive and

Education Program
Description: The Education Program provides
education workshops on HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, STIs, Healthy
Sexuality and Relationships, Aboriginal Health Challenges,
and Wellness. A large portion of the work is done with
Aboriginal youth in urban and rural areas and on reserves.
Goal: To increase awareness and promote the prevention
of HIV/AIDS in urban, rural and remote Aboriginal communities
throughout British Columbia.

Transgender Youth Drop-in
Description: A twice-monthly drop-in run
by and for trans youth and trans-positive loved ones
(friends, siblings, partners, etc.). It provides a place
to meet other youth who are interested in trans issues,
make art and zines, eat free snacks and get information
about local resources. Participants and facilitators
include youth who are HIV positive.
Goal: To decrease social isolation experienced
by trans youth and their loved ones, and to create a
safe space for trans and questioning youth to socialize
and access trans friendly health care and resources.
Services: Peer-led social drop-in; and on-site
program coordinator assists youth in crisis and takes
drop-in appointments for referrals, advocacy, or other
general program services.
Youth Involvement: A group of transgendered youth meets
monthly to determine policy, procedures, direction and
focus for the drop-in.

Description: YouthCO AIDS Society is a non-pro?t
organization working to involve youth ages 15-29 from

and related issues. YouthCO is Canada's only youth-driven

tools they need to make safer and more informed choices

Mobile X (mobile needle exchange)
Description: Mobile X provides clean rigs
and injecting equipment for youth on the street. Mobile
X also uses volunteers, outreach workers from other
agencies and nurses from street nursing and a street
clinic to assist people with medical issues.
Goal: To reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C by
providing clean injecting equipment, education and resources
for people who use injection drugs, including youth.

Description: The Boys and Girls Club of
Williams Lake is a non-pro?t agency which focuses on
providing youth with outreach services related to the
prevention of HIV/AIDS, STIs and blood borne pathogens.
Goal: To prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis
C and STIs by providing up-to-date and relevant information.
Services: Non-judgemental support; updated information
and resource library; treatment information; free condoms
(male/female); presentations on HIV/AIDS, safe behaviors
and harm reduction; outreach; and information and support
for PLWHIV/AIDS.
Youth Involvement: Youth are involved as peer educators
and are trained by YouthCO AIDS Society.
