Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
Description: YAC is a program advisory committee
by youth for youth that involves New Brunswick youth
from throughout the province. YAC provides input for
AIDS New Brunswick's programs and services.
Goal: To represent the views, opinions and needs
of young people in New Brunswick and to provide input
on programs and policy development for AIDS New Brunswick
in terms of youth programs, education and services;
to promote the participation and membership of young
people in AIDS New Brunswick; to provide input on the
decision making process on programming for youth throughout
the province; and to develop mechanisms to promote a
community-based response to HIV/AIDS for young people
within the province.
Services: YAC has been involved in the creation
of our HIV/AIDS Jeopardy game, information line, pocket
cards and stickers, teacher's information sheets, and
our most popular brochure, "HIV: reduce the risk!".
Youth Involvement: Youth are involved in all planning
and delivery stages.

Ask, Listen and Plan - Phase II
Description: This project, which runs from
March 2004-March 2006 aims to: strengthen the capacity
of youth in New Brunswick to provide information and
support to peers related to healthy sexuality, increase
knowledge and comfort level of parents regarding healthy
sexuality and youth, and increase community's acceptance
of healthy sexuality.
Goal: To reduce the risk of HIV and other STIs
among at-risk youth in southeastern New Brunswick.
Services: Youth develop interests in activities
which will help them get the "healthy sexuality"
message to other youth (marketing, graphic design, photography,
videography, playwriting, radio broadcasting).
Youth Involvement: A youth committee of 15 at-risk youth
provides direction for the various project components
and actively participates in and evaluates these components.
Parental committee develops and delivers "Sex 101"
to other parents to increase comfort level so parents
can be a resource to youth.
Age Range: 15-19 and their parents

Peer Education Project

Description: Youth from various high schools
in the area are trained on HIV/AIDS and related issues
such as violence in relationships, drug and alcohol
use, homophobia, etc. and then act as educators in the
high school setting.
Goal: Peer educators organize awareness activities
within area schools in order to educate the rest of
the students.
Services: Peer-driven prevention education workshops
for high school students.
Youth Involvement: Workshop content is in?uenced by
feedback received from students.

Safe Spaces Fundy Region
Description: A youth-directed program for GLBTQ
youth.
Goal: To end discrimination around issues of
sexual orientation and gender identity; to reduce isolation
and promote acceptance; and to provide information,
resources and support.
Services: Information and awareness to the community
on homophobia and heterosexism; Web site with local
information; youth-organized social events; and in-service/professional
development.
Youth Involvement: Youth develop resources and the Web
site, and advise on all aspects of the program.
Age Range: Under 30
