Opportunistic Infections
People with HIV who have low CD4
count (usually below 200) can get
infections (called opportunistic infections,
or OIs). Many of these illnesses are
serious and need to be treated by
a doctor. Some can be prevented by
taking drugs before you get sick.
If you've already had an OI you might
need to keep taking meds even after
the infection goes away. Doctors recommend
doing this to help stop the OI from
coming back again.
