What is AIDS?
"AIDS" stands for Acquired
Immunodeficiency Syndrome:
- Acquired: To acquire something
is to get something from somewhere
else. You get AIDS from the HIV
virus.
- Immunodeficiency: means
that something is missing, or there
is not enough of it, in the immune
system. The immune system helps
fight sickness so you stay healthy.
If your immune system is weak, your
body doesnt have the same
ability to fight sickness.
- Syndrome: means that AIDS
is a collection of diseases and
not just one disease. People with
AIDS are in danger of getting a
number of diseases.
