How can I tell if I have HIV?
Many people do not get any symptoms
when they first get HIV. But some
people get flu-like symptoms within
a month or two after getting the virus.
You may feel like you have the flu.
You may get these symptoms:
- fever
- headache
- tiredness
- enlarged lymph nodes (glands of
the immune system easily felt in
the neck and groin).
These symptoms usually disappear
within a week to a month. BUT, when
you are feeling this way you are very
infectious. This means that there
is a lot of the HIV virus in your
body and it is very easy to spread
the virus.
After this you feel these flu-like
symptoms, you may begin to have symptoms
within a few months or you may be
symptom-free for more than 10 years.
