Who can get HIV?

Anyone can get HIV! HIV doesn’t care about…

> YOUR AGE:

You can get HIV at any age. Some people get it as a baby, other people get it later on in life.

> YOUR SEXUALITY:

It doesn’t matter if you like men or women or both. HIV can affect anyone.

> WHERE YOU LIVE:

HIV isn’t a problem only in the big city. You can get it anywhere in the world.

> THE COLOUR OF YOUR SKIN:

People from all backgrounds and cultures get HIV.

> HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE.

> YOUR EDUCATION:

No matter how much you know you can still get HIV.

Safe things you can do when you’re HIV positive:

These are all things that you can do without passing HIV on to anyone:

  • kissing
  • play sports and sweat
  • cry
  • shake hands
  • share towels
  • share a drink or food
  • swim
  • share telephones
  • sit on toilet seats
  • get a mosquito bite (but mosquitoes can pass on other illnesses like West Nile virus and Malaria)
